Is it just me, or is this year’s crop of “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” contestants starting to look like a bit of a doofus crew? We’ve had Eden Blackman, Jamie Lomas, Nick Knowles, and now, Richard Madeley has won the heart of viewers by dropping an odd comedic detour into the I’m a celebrity jungle.
After easily pinning former talk show host Piers Morgan down on a crab, Madeley announced that Morgan and Kevin Pietersen would go for a walk under a waterfall, even though you can’t walk anywhere under a waterfall. During the walk, the pair ended up half naked, presumably because they had never had the supremely awkward experience of being confronted by a nude waterfall and decided to be happy with standing outside of it, fully clothed. And suddenly, Richard had an entirely different interpretation of the famed Phwoar! moment from “Rough Night.”
“Stupid English and robust people,” he joked.
After Morgan and Pietersen’s walk, the reality show came around to talk to Madeley about his time on “That’s Life!” That’s right, Madeley’s 18-episode stint on “That’s Life!” received one of the highest viewing averages ever for a British show and was one of the reasons why ITV recommissioned it for a 29th season. Thankfully, he had no problem picking up where he left off and admitting that although the group was “freakin’ brilliant,” he did remember to act out some of the funniest scenes for which he appeared and somehow ended up as the lead monkey in the Britney Spears/Gwen Stefani week finale.
“The best part of doing That’s Life! was being done in that ridiculous pink and green world all week,” he said. “It’s the thing I’ll miss most. We had massive audience figures for this show and it was hilarious.”
Madeley’s “Great British Funnies” segment is scheduled to air on the show tomorrow night, so expect plenty of antics from the host.
